It is almost the end of the year, are you ready to welcome the new year? The end of the year is the great time to think and evaluate what you have done this year. It is also a nice opportunity to clean and redecorate your living space so that you face the new year with a fresh start. If you want to start the new year with a clean and clutter-free home, take a look at the article below!
Before you do your end of year declutter activities, you gotta identify the place where you have the most clutter, or where the clutter bothers you the most. From there, you can decide where you should star decluttering. Don’t leave any room behind.
TAKE YOUR TIME
In decluttering your space, I suggest you don’t rush your work. You don’t have to set aside a whole day to organize your stuff. Just schedule 2 until 3 hours per session everytime you decide to do the work.
DONATE YOUR STUFF
There must have been a time when you bought things that ended up useless. This end of year, you can try to sort out your stuff and donate the clothes or other stuff that you never really use.
You can create your own sorting system to help you organize your things. You can also use the popular method—the three box method. This method requires you to designate three boxes to put your stuff in. Those three boxes are meant for the things that you need to throw out, to keep, or to give away.
OPEN A GARAGE SALE
After sorting out your stuff, you can always open a garage sale to sell your used goods. There might be many people that need the things that you don’t need anymore.
GET RID OF YOUR PAPERWORK
You need to throw out your pile of papers and sort out the ones that you need to keep. Consider recycling the documents that you can easily find on the internet. Just make sure to destroy those that contain your personal information.
DIGITALIZE YOUR DOCUMENTS
One way to declutter is by digitalizing your papers, photos, and receipts. You can always keep your important documents online. I also suggest you to go paperless. Your source of entertainment—book, music, movies, and TV shows—are now all available on the internet, so you don’t really need to keep the physical version anymore.
SAVE YOUR MONEY
Save your money by not going out to buy new organization boxes or any other storage pieces before you start decluttering your space. Too many storage boxes won’t do you any good and they actually have the potential to add more clutter to your room.
Don’t forget to categorize your stuff by putting the like things together into one particular category. Make piles for your toiletries, cleaning supplies, and your other bathroom necessities.
GET YOUR DIVIDERS
Drawer dividers are very important to make your drawers more organized.
Don’t let the mess from your Christmas party frustrates you this end of year. Declutter your home to welcome the clean, neat, and tidy new year!
